Qatar Rail had a key participation in Cityscape Qatar Conference and Exhibition 2019, which is taking place from 22-24 October under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Qatar.

Qatar Rail showcased the Transit Oriented Developments (TOD), which are high density, mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly developments around rail transit stations that act as community hubs with easy walkability, minimal parking and other design features that will enhance public transport use and overall accessibility. Qatar Rail is developing TOD projects to enhance transit ridership, non-fare revenue, induce economic growth and the private sector engagement.  The projects span approximately 1.5mn sqm over 11 transit stations along the Doha Metro Project lines, and comprise commercial, residential and office spaces.

Key Partnerships

Qatar Rail signed a number of high level agreements in the attendance of His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Qatar, His Excellency Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport and Communications, and His Excellency Eng. Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie, Minister of Municipality and Environment, Qatar Rail's Managing Director.

Naming Right Agreement: Hamad International Airport Station – Qatar Airways

Qatar has signed a naming agreement of Hamad International Airport Station with Qatar Airways; the agreement was signed by His Excellency Eng. Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie, Minister of Municipality and Environment, Qatar Rail's Managing Director and His Excellency Akbar Al Baker Group CEO of Qatar Airways and Secretary-General of Qatar National Tourism Council.

The stations naming rights is one of Qatar Rail's strategies aimed at forming strategic alliances with renowned local and international corporations and brands to promoting their services at the stations and reach wider market segments. 

Naming Rights Agreement: QNB Lusail Station

On the second day of the event, Qatar Rail announced the signing of naming rights agreement of Lusail Station with Qatar National Bank (QNB).

Mr. Ali Rashid Al-Mohannadi, Group Chief Operating Officer, signed the agreement on behalf of QNB,  commenting: " Obtaining the right of naming Lusail Metro Station as "Lusail -QNB Station" is a major achievement. The Station will operate as the metro station serving Lusail that will provide a convenient and secure transportation option to avoid the city's traffic congestion."

"We are keen to support every project that contributes to the development of the country's infrastructure and the variation of income sources. We would make sure to continue supporting Qatar National Vision 2030, along with the largest institutions in the country", he added.

The Lusail Station, one of the Red line's elevated stations of the Doha Metro, is the key metro station in Lusail City and will be part of the first operational phase of Doha Metro. It is located close to the Lusail Stadium, Lusail Race Course and Lusail Handball Stadium. The Station is one of the exchange stations and will link to Lusail Tram network, enabling passengers to travel between Lusail Tram and Doha Metro lines to complete their journeys.

In the marking of those agreements Chief of Strategy & Business Development at Qatar Rail, Ajlan Eid Al Enazi commented:

Naming rights is a strategic and long-term opportunity that allows companies to reach a wider segment of its target market and promote their brand across.  We look forward to working more closely with our partners to further strengthen our alliance and contribute to achieving their goals."

 

Signing two agreements with Commercial Bank

In addition Qatar Rail has signed two agreements with Commercial Bank, firstly allotting commercial spaces at Qatar University Station and the naming rights to boost their promotions for a period of five years.

The agreement details the right for Commercial Bank to promote its brand within prominent

Advertisement spaces both inside and outside the metro station. Additionally, Commercial Bank will take over all commercial spaces at Qatar University Station and open an integrated branch spreading over 110sqm to provide a wide range of banking services to students, entrepreneurs and metro passengers. The Station will also feature a meeting point for professionals in addition to food and beverage facilities.    

In this context, Group Chief Executive Officer of Commercial Bank, Joseph Abraham stated: "Commercial Bank is proud to sign such a high-end agreement with Qatar Railways Company. Such an agreement represents one perfect collaboration and partnership between public and private companies. We hope to reach a wider niche of customers through our branch in Qatar University, especially university students, teachers and visitors."

Doha Metro Line Retail Opportunities

Participants during Cityscape 2019 had the opportunity to visit the Qatar Rail booth to learn more about commercial and retail spaces available t Doha Metro stations.

With over 9,200sqm of available retail space across 37 stations, these outlets are considered the first-of-its-kind in Qatar, providing businesses unprecedented new access to railway commuters and their neighborhoods.

Retail spaces within the Doha Metro Project offer a wide range of integrated and diverse set of spaces to serve the goals of leading businesses. Business owners maintain a competitive advantage over their counterparts, as leasing costs remain fixed for a period of five years. Through such partnerships, Qatar Rail is able to effectively solidify its presence within the business sector while simultaneously provide new business opportunities to the sector.

Additionally, participants visiting the Qatar Rail booth had the chance to partake in a tour of the Doha Metro Project and various trains through immersive virtual reality technology. The tour allows the visitor to learn about the project's full offerings, view the surrounding locations of the stations, and learn how to access the stations through the support services such as Metro Link and Metro Express amongst others.

Cityscape Qatar 2019 Conference and Exhibition, now in its eighth year, is regarded as the biggest real estate investment events in Qatar and present and ideal platform to network with local and international real estate developers.
